How to Connect Sony WH-CH520 Bluetooth Headphones to PlayStation 5
I needed to connect Bluetooth headphones to a PlayStation 5. The first unpleasant surprise was that you cannot connect just any Bluetooth headphones to the PlayStation, but only those specifically designed for the console — and that was not what I wanted at all. I had decided on the affordable Sony WH-CH520 headphones, which I also use with my iPhone.
Fortunately, there is a solution for connecting them to the PlayStation — you need to purchase an external USB Bluetooth adapter. Unfortunately, not just any adapter will work either, so based on what I found, I bought the Ugreen 10928 (the cheapest option where PlayStation compatibility was mentioned), and it really works!
Purchased
Headphones Sony WH-CH520 (900 CZK)
USB Bluetooth Ugreen 10928 (160 CZK)
Does it work?
I was quite worried, but it works. You don’t even need to pair the headphones via the Sony Sound Connect mobile app to connect them to the PlayStation. Just turn on the headphones and wait for a while until they automatically connect to the USB Bluetooth adapter (sometimes it takes longer — even a few minutes).
I found that if the connection fails, it helps to turn the headphones off, wait at least 10 seconds, and then turn them back on.
How does it behave?
If you want audio output through the headphones, select USB as the audio output in the PlayStation sound settings.
Connecting a Bluetooth speaker also works very well. There is no problem switching between headphones and a speaker (tested with the LAMAX Sounder2 Mini).
Additional note
The gamepad (DualSense controller) has a 3.5 mm jack, so you can also plug in classic wired headphones and don’t need to buy anything.
